About 20 people, including Governor Lee Cheol-woo and heads of departments, attended the Chung-hon Tower visit event. Governor Lee wrote in the guestbook, "Sajung-gusaeng (死中求生) ? Preparing for the Daegu-Gyeongbuk era," reaffirming his determination to actively promote the administrative integration of Daegu and Gyeongbuk.
The opening ceremony was held in a non-face-to-face format (administrative information system - internal broadcasting, video transmission) due to COVID-19, proceeding with the national ceremony and the governor’s New Year greeting.
Governor Lee Cheol-woo stated, "We have set the New Year’s motto for Gyeongbuk Province in 2021 as Sajung-gusaeng (死中求生)," adding, "With the mindset of finding a way to survive in the midst of death, we must prepare thoroughly and rearm ourselves with the spirit of Gyeongbuk, which has turned crises into opportunities, as unprecedented turbulent changes are expected."
He continued, "This year’s direction for provincial administration will be a complete overhaul of the existing administrative system into a research-centered administrative system linked with universities, forming a one-team administration together with universities, businesses, the province, and city and county governments," and added, "To this end, we will reorganize the provincial government organization in the long term to align with the Fourth Industrial Revolution."
The governor said, "We will make improving people’s livelihoods the core of provincial administration and establish a 'Special Task Force for Livelihood Improvement' directly under the governor to actively discover field-centered policies that practically help residents," emphasizing, "In particular, we will accelerate the concretization of detailed plans, including reflecting mid- to long-distance routes for the integrated new airport."
