Pukyong National University Begins Academic Schedule with ‘Baekgyeong Tower Tribute’ Honoring Senior Spirits
President Jang Young-su: "Let's Navigate the Unknown World in 2021 with a New Determination"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-soo) began its 2021 academic schedule on the morning of the 4th with a visit to the Baekgyeong Tower.
President Jang Young-soo of Pukyong National University and other academic officials paid tribute to the Baekgyeong Tower, honoring the spirits of predecessors who sacrificed their lives for maritime pioneering and academic development, as their first official event of 2021. Due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19, no separate opening ceremony was held.
In his New Year's address released online via the Pukyong National University website and social media, President Jang emphasized, “In 2021, we will implement four major innovation tasks: ▷creative convergence education ▷strengthening autonomy ▷enhancing research and welfare ▷reinforcing finances to propel Pukyong to a new leap forward.”
President Jang stated in his New Year's message, “So far, we have been experiencing new and challenging situations amid the spread of COVID-19,” adding, “This era of unpredictable innovation demands that universities transform into future institutions that can contribute to local communities and the nation. We must unite all our capabilities to respond to the changing environment and prepare for the future.”
He also said, “To produce innovative research outcomes leading the advanced knowledge information industry era and to nurture excellent talents, it is essential for professors to take on challenges in new fields,” and added, “Our university has a strong DNA of challenge, so let us join hands with renewed determination in the new year and vigorously advance toward the unknown world.”
At the awards ceremony held that day, the Prime Minister’s Commendation was awarded to Lee Eun-young (World Fisheries Graduate School) and Jo Wan-joo (Facilities Department). The Minister of Education’s Commendations went to Kim Jeong-hee (Future Education Innovation Headquarters), Park Seong-hyun (Facilities Department), Park Tae-in (Academic Affairs Department), Son Chang-woo (Talent Development Center), Oh Seung-ho (Facilities Department), Yoon Seung-hyun (General Affairs Department), Wi Eun-jae (Facilities Department), Jeong Young-oh (Future Convergence College), Choi Gwi-ryeon (Finance Department), and Choi Hee-sook (Information and Computing Center). The Mayor of Busan’s Commendation was awarded to Jeong Young-oh (Future Convergence College), among others.
