People Power Party Urges Reconsideration of Reward for Reporting Gatherings of Five or More People
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The People Power Party has raised its voice, urging the government to change its COVID-19 quarantine measures and reconsider the reward system for reporting gatherings of five or more people.
On the 4th, Kim Jae-sik, deputy spokesperson of the People Power Party, said in a statement, "In a time when we should be encouraging and uniting with each other due to COVID-19, where does the idea of encouraging people to monitor and report each other come from?"
Deputy Spokesperson Kim criticized, "Is this something the state should be doing to its citizens?" and added, "Is the government shifting the enforcement duties it should properly carry out onto the people just because it does not want to be criticized?"
Regarding Suncheon City's recent announcement to ban alcohol sales in restaurants, commonly known as daytime drinking, and to take criminal prosecution measures, he pointed out, "Suncheon City should clarify under which specific articles and clauses of the Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act it is attempting to prohibit daytime alcohol sales," adding, "this infringes on business freedom and is illegal and unconstitutional."

Deputy Spokesperson Kim stated, "'Zero tolerance principle,' 'strict response,' 'criminal prosecution,' and 'administrative measures' should not be directed at innocent restaurants and citizens. It is appropriate that these be applied first to the government's past mistakes," and criticized, "Stop blaming the people and start doing what you are supposed to do."
