[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyo-jin] Kwon Kwang-seok, CEO of Woori Bank, presented 'digital innovation' as the first management keyword of the new year on the 4th.
In his New Year's address announced that day, CEO Kwon stated, "(Digital innovation) means digitalizing the core competitiveness of all bank operations, including existing products, services, and processes."
He emphasized, "We will spare no support and effort to ensure that 'Woori WON Banking,' the bank's core non-face-to-face channel, establishes itself as a leading financial application (app) in the financial sector."
CEO Kwon also urged, "We must build customer-centric channels so that customers can experience optimized financial services across all channels, including face-to-face and non-face-to-face, and make thorough preparations for the Personal Credit Information Management business (MyData) and MyPayment business, which are scheduled to be implemented starting this year."
He further highlighted the importance of the 'VG (Value Group)' system starting that day, stating, "The VG system is not the end point of Woori Bank's channel strategy but the starting point of a new change," and requested, "Please actively participate and make efforts to ensure the successful establishment of the VG system."
The VG system is a system that groups one base branch and approximately 4 to 8 nearby branches into one group. The purpose is to induce joint sales and sharing of work know-how among branches belonging to the same VG by grouping nearby branches centered on the base branch and establishing a collaborative system.
CEO Kwon said, "The VG system is a great transformation that changes the paradigm of sales methods," adding, "Branches should promote autonomous sales tailored to their characteristics and environment to achieve VG unit goals and joint sales, and headquarters should also focus more on customized field support for each VG."
He also mentioned, "While continuously promoting the non-face-to-face process of all deposit and loan operations, we must strengthen the main transaction relationship with Woori Bank for customers with salary transfers and retirement pensions (IRP), as well as enhance generation-specific customized digital marketing to continuously expand the customer base centered on active customers."
CEO Kwon added, "Efforts are needed to attract not only the large corporations but also their partner companies and employees as our customers through strengthening 'total marketing' utilizing Woori Bank's strengths."

He continued, "However, in the process of expanding the customer and profit base, we must not be hasty about immediate numbers or performance," and said, "Please keep in mind that genuine sales and ethical sales are the true ways to serve both customers and the bank."
