President Moon's Approval Rating Hits New Low at 36.6%... Negative Ratings Near 60% [Realmeter]
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] President Moon Jae-in's approval rating for his administration has once again hit a new low since his inauguration. The disapproval rating approached 60%, marking a record high.
According to Realmeter's announcement on the 4th, based on a survey commissioned by YTN conducted from the 28th to the 31st of last month, President Moon's approval rating (positive evaluation) for his administration was 36.6%, down 0.1 percentage points from the previous week's aggregate. This is the lowest since the current government took office. The disapproval rating also rose 0.2 percentage points from the previous week to 59.9%, breaking the previous record once again. The gap between positive and negative evaluations stands at 23.3 percentage points.
Approval ratings increased compared to the previous week in Daegu·Gyeongbuk (9.2 percentage points), people in their 30s (4.1 percentage points), Justice Party supporters (1.8 percentage points), conservatives (3.2 percentage points), unemployed individuals (11.2 percentage points), and students (3.0 percentage points).
Disapproval ratings rose in the Chungcheong region (6.4 percentage points), Honam region (4.4 percentage points), Seoul (2.7 percentage points), males (1.8 percentage points), people in their 20s (5.4 percentage points), people in their 60s (3.9 percentage points), Open Democratic Party supporters (3.7 percentage points), progressives (7.6 percentage points), homemakers (4.6 percentage points), and students (3.1 percentage points).
Among the negative factors cited was the ongoing mass infection incident involving nearly 900 people at the Seoul Eastern Detention Center. In particular, controversy over the dismissal-related personnel decisions concerning Minister Chu is analyzed as a main reason for the decline in support among progressives.
Regarding party support, the People Power Party recorded 30.4%, down 3.4 percentage points from the previous week, while the Democratic Party of Korea rose 0.4 percentage points to 29.7%. The gap between the two parties is 0.7 percentage points, indicating a close race within the margin of error.
Other parties recorded the following: People’s Party 7.4%, Open Democratic Party 6.9%, Justice Party 5.8%, Basic Income Party 0.8%, and Transition Korea 0.5%.

This survey contacted 46,208 voters aged 18 and over nationwide, with a final 2,003 respondents completing the survey, resulting in a response rate of 4.3%.
