Daejeon City Issues Diagnostic Testing and Gathering Ban Orders to Visitors of 'Sangju BTJ'
[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Daejeon City announced on the 2nd that it has issued an administrative order requiring participants of the Sangju BTJ Prayer Center to undergo diagnostic testing for COVID-19 and to comply with a ban on gatherings.
The target group includes visitors to the Sangju BTJ Prayer Center from November 27 to December 30 of last year. These individuals must receive a test (free of charge) at a nearby public health center screening clinic or a temporary screening clinic (Hanbat Stadium) by 6 p.m. on the 8th of this month.
In particular, visitors to the Sangju BTJ Prayer Center during the same period are prohibited from attending meetings and events. This measure will remain in effect from the 2nd until further notice.
If these measures are violated, a fine of up to 3 million KRW will be imposed along with legal action. The city also emphasized that it may claim compensation for quarantine costs related to testing, investigation, and treatment of confirmed cases.
Meanwhile, in Daejeon, there was a case where a visitor to the Sangju BTJ Prayer Center caused a cluster infection at their church. It has been identified that 70 people were infected through this. Currently, the city is conducting an epidemiological investigation into the infection routes, movements, and close contacts of these confirmed cases.
Jung Hae-gyo, Director of the Health and Welfare Bureau of the city, stated, “Despite having taken legal action against churches visited by BTJ Prayer Center attendees recently, there is information that gatherings are being held again.” He emphasized, “The city repeatedly urges those who visited the Sangju BTJ Prayer Center to comply with diagnostic testing to prevent further spread of infections related to the BTJ Prayer Center.”
