Naver Awards 330 Million KRW for Outstanding In-House Development Projects
Each of the Best Projects Receives 30 Million Won
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Naver awarded a total of 330 million KRW to in-house development projects that created change with innovative technology this year.
On the 31st, Naver announced that it held the 'N INNOVATION Award 2020' on the 29th to select outstanding in-house development projects and encourage its members.
Projects submitted by each team were directly evaluated and voted on by Naver's development leaders to select outstanding projects. The project selection was conducted in two areas: service development and research and development. Despite changes in the work environment due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) this year, the number of submitted projects increased by a remarkable 77% compared to last year, and the level of technology development also improved. Naver awarded 30 million KRW each to the top projects in each area that received the most votes. A total of 32 teams received 330 million KRW in prize money.
In the service development area, the outstanding technical project was the 'Naver Pay Benefit Component Renewal Project.' This project replaced Naver Pay's benefit component from Oracle to Naver's in-house distributed database 'nBase-T' and transformed it into a microservice. The team focused on developing all technologies used for Naver Pay benefits such as points accumulation, events, and coupons for one year, and successfully replaced the engine without service interruption or failure.
Yoon Junho, Plasma Tech Leader, said, "Above all, I feel proud to have built an environment that enhances the stability of Naver Pay services used by many users in daily life and applies the latest technology smoothly," adding, "It is a great honor as a developer to have successfully completed a project that affects 28 million Naver Pay users."
In the research and development area, the 'Toothless' project was selected. It automatically performs security-related checks on Naver's research and development platform to help develop safer services during the development stage. Toothless conducts over 1,000 source code inspections daily, developed by Naver developers.
Yoon Geunyong, Beyond Security Tech Leader, said, "The most meaningful aspect is contributing to improving the security of Naver services and helping colleagues' work become easier," and added, "Next year, we will work with pride that the technology we create impacts all Naver users and becomes an industry benchmark."
