View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Hydrogen Energy Network (HyNet) announced on the 31st that it will open a hydrogen charging station at Incheon Airport Terminal 1 (T1) on the 4th of next month. Additionally, the hydrogen charging stations at the newly completed highway rest areas, Shintanjin Rest Area and Chuncheon Rest Area, as well as the Pyeongtaek Paengseong station, will undergo trial operations and are scheduled to officially open in January. With these four stations opening, HyNet will operate a total of 10 charging stations.
In particular, once the hydrogen charging station at Incheon International Airport (T1) is completed, the introduction and operation of hydrogen shuttle buses will become possible, which is expected to help spread the image of Korea as an eco-friendly leading country to foreign visitors. The hydrogen shuttle bus will be charged at the Incheon Airport T1 hydrogen charging station and will operate routes passing through Terminal 1 (T1), Terminal 2 (T2), long-term parking lots, logistics complexes, and the Cargo Terminal Station. The charging station will operate year-round without holidays, open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., totaling 14 hours of operation.
Furthermore, in the first half of next year, an additional hydrogen charging station will be constructed at Incheon Airport Terminal 2 (T2) by HyNet. The T2 hydrogen charging station will be dedicated to buses and is expected to supply 1,000 kg of hydrogen daily, enabling the charging of 40 hydrogen buses. Incheon International Airport Corporation plans to rapidly transition to an eco-friendly airport by deploying hydrogen shuttle buses and hydrogen electric vehicles for official use alongside the successive openings of hydrogen charging stations.
The HyNet Pyeongtaek Paengseong hydrogen charging station, scheduled to be completed in Pyeongtaek Paengseong, will be built on the site of SK Energy’s gas station and LPG charging station. The complex hydrogen charging station operated by SK Energy is expected to greatly improve charging convenience for hydrogen vehicle customers near Pyeongtaek. The operating hours will be six days a week, Monday through Saturday, open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., totaling 12 hours per day.
HyNet is also accelerating the completion of hydrogen charging stations at highway rest areas. The highway rest area hydrogen charging stations currently preparing for completion are Shintanjin Rest Area (Seoul direction) and Chuncheon Rest Area (Busan direction). The hydrogen charging stations built at highway rest areas will either be complex charging stations operated by the operator running the gas station or LPG charging station within the rest area on land provided by the Korea Expressway Corporation, or they will be directly operated by HyNet.
These hydrogen charging stations will not only improve the convenience of long-distance driving for hydrogen vehicle customers but also support charging for nearby hydrogen vehicle customers.
