Italy Reviews Disciplinary Action Against Doctors Refusing COVID-19 Vaccination
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Although COVID-19 vaccination has started in Italy, controversy is arising as some medical staff refuse to receive the vaccine.
On the 30th (local time), according to local media, the Rome Medical Association referred 13 doctors who refused vaccination to the disciplinary review committee. Among them, 3 are also held responsible for spreading false information through TV or SNS claiming that "COVID-19 is nothing more than seasonal flu."
There are even suggestions of possible revocation of medical licenses. Antonio Maggi, the association president, emphasized, "I have the responsibility to discipline doctors who provided incorrect information to the public and acted improperly," adding, "We have a civic and moral duty to get vaccinated."

Earlier, on the 27th, Italy began COVID-19 vaccinations for medical staff using the vaccine jointly developed by the American pharmaceutical company Pfizer and the German BioNTech. However, some medical personnel continue to refuse the vaccine, causing embarrassment for the authorities. So far, only 69.8% of local Italian doctors have agreed to vaccination. Within the government, debates over the 'mandatory vaccination' policy are spreading.
