Hwang Bo-young and Seo Gwang-il Receive National Gugak Center Academic Award
Each Awarded the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award and the National Gugak Center Director Award
The National Gugak Center announced on the 30th that this year's academic award recipients are Hwang Bo-young (Grand Prize) and Seo Gwang-il (Excellence Award). Hwang conducted research on Gyeonggi-do shamanistic music Yeombul Pungnyu, focusing on Im Seon-mun's haegeum melodies. Seo investigated and analyzed the first records and melodies of 'Incheon Arirang.' Recognized for their academic value, they will receive the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award (prize money of 5 million KRW) and the National Gugak Center Director's Award (prize money of 3 million KRW), respectively. Their papers will be published in the Korea Research Foundation-registered journal, 'Gugakwon Nonmunjip.' No recipients were selected in the criticism category. The National Gugak Center Academic Awards have been held since 2012, targeting full-time university faculty and emerging scholars (excluding those who obtained their PhD more than 5 years ago).
