Gimhae City Announces Multicultural and Foreign Household Statistics
Utilization of Basic Data for Establishing Multicultural and Foreigners Policies

View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Gimhae City, Gyeongnam, announced on the 29th the newly developed "2020 Gimhae City Multicultural and Foreign Household Statistics" as basic data to improve the quality of life for local multicultural households and foreigners.
The newly announced multicultural and foreign household statistics analyzed 84 items in six categories?population and households, population dynamics, economic activities, assets, welfare, and education?based on multicultural and foreign households and household members residing in Gimhae City as of November 1 last year, divided into multicultural households, foreign households, and foreigners.
There are 3,683 multicultural households with 11,101 household members, accounting for 2.0% of the city's total household members, showing an increasing trend every year since 2017.
The average age of multicultural household members is 32.6 years, with a high proportion in middle age, composed of marriage immigrants and naturalized citizens at 32.3%, Korean spouses at 29.9%, and children at 27.5%.
Last year, 282 multicultural household members got married, an increase of 65 compared to 2017. The nationality of male spouses was predominantly South Korea (79.8%), while female spouses were equally from South Korea (39.0%) and Vietnam (39.0%).
The number of births in multicultural households was 250, an increase of 30 compared to 2017.
There are 5,201 employed multicultural household members, among whom 2,343 are wage workers, the largest group, mostly engaged in mining and manufacturing industries.
There are 241 daycare centers attended by multicultural children, with private daycare centers being the most numerous, and the number of children enrolled is 639.
The number of elementary school students in multicultural families is 1,110, middle school students 252, and high school students 252, which increased by 227, 118, and 24 respectively compared to 2017.
An official from the city stated, "As administrative demand for multicultural households and foreign residents in Gimhae City increases, this will be used as basic data for establishing policies that allow them to take root and settle in Gimhae," adding, "We will continue to discover and supplement new items and maintain ongoing interest."
