"Fashion Industry Revolutionary Figure" Pierre Cardin Passes Away
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo Seulgina] Pierre Cardin, the legendary French fashion designer, passed away on the 29th (local time) at the age of 98.
According to local media such as France Info, citing his family, Pierre Cardin died on the morning of that day at the American Hospital located in Neuilly, near Paris.
Born in Italy in 1922, Pierre Cardin moved to France during his childhood. After working as the chief tailor for Christian Dior in 1947, he launched his own brand named Pierre Cardin in 1950.
Local media evaluated that he gained fame for avant-garde styles in the 1950s and futuristic designs in the 1960s. Pierre Cardin received awards such as the Fashion Oscar and the Merit Medal for his ready-to-wear as well as forward-leading clothing. In 2012, at the age of 90, he also held an exhibition of his works.
