Gwangju City Deploys AI Robots with Thermal Imaging and Facial Recognition Capabilities in Government Buildings
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City is utilizing AI robots equipped with infrared cameras and artificial intelligence-based facial recognition technology within the city hall to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
On the 29th, Gwangju City announced that it has established a demonstration test environment for two robots developed by Zeta Bank Co., Ltd., which is carrying out the AI (City) Product Production Support Project under the AI Industry Convergence Project Group, and Hancom Robotics Co., Ltd., a resident company of the Gwangju AI Startup Camp.
One AI robot currently being demonstrated at the city hall is equipped with state-of-the-art devices that automatically measure fever and mask-wearing status by linking a thermal imaging camera and AI facial recognition device for visitors entering the building.
The other robot autonomously navigates in spaces occupied by people while performing air purification and ultraviolet floor sterilization.
The AI robot capable of real-time fever checks sounds an alarm message saying "High temperature detected" when a temperature above the standard is detected, and also provides voice guidance to wear a mask properly if the mask is not worn correctly.
In addition to quarantine functions, it is equipped with functions such as civil service guidance and video promotion, enabling the provision of diverse and convenient civil services.
Gwangju City plans to actively introduce AI technology to respond proactively to administrative demands arising from the spread of non-face-to-face services in the post-COVID era by promoting a demonstration project for AI and 5G-based non-face-to-face administrative service robots next year.
