Starbucks Hires 36 Graduating Students Through Specialized High School Job Fair
Career Education Activities for Specialized High School Students in Collaboration with JA Korea
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] Starbucks Coffee Korea announced on the 29th that it conducted an online job fair targeting over 90 specialized high school graduates in the Seoul and Gyeonggi areas in collaboration with the international educational NGO JA, and through recruitment interviews, finally selected a total of 36 participating students as Starbucks baristas.
This job fair event was conducted entirely online, from teacher briefings to student education and recruitment interviews, in accordance with the current COVID-19 situation. The online education was designed to match the students' level, with Starbucks in-house instructors explaining how to write self-introduction letters and interview preparation tips, and Starbucks senior baristas who joined through last year's JA job fair appearing directly to demonstrate problem-solving methods in various scenarios through role-playing.
Additionally, Starbucks and JA provided online lectures to schools wishing to participate through an online teacher briefing session, and conducted online education and recruitment interviews for students aspiring to work at Starbucks.
The interviews were conducted by interviewers composed of Starbucks Coffee Korea regional managers and store managers, consisting of Q&A on various aspects required as Starbucks partners, such as volunteer experience, service mindset, and interpersonal relationship building.
Since 2015, Starbucks Coffee Korea has hired a total of 157 students through job fairs targeting specialized high schools, and with this job fair, the total number of hires from specialized high schools is expected to reach 193.
The 36 specialized high school students who passed as Starbucks baristas this year will sequentially join the company starting from March 2021, beginning with those who are over 18 years old after graduating from high school.
Starbucks Coffee Korea has been conducting the industry's first youth career education program activities for six years since 2015 in collaboration with JA. In addition, more than 1,300 Starbucks employees have completed training courses and visited over 80 specialized high schools nationwide, participating in talent donation activities as employment mentors for more than 15,000 specialized high school students.
Furthermore, Starbucks has signed an academic exchange cooperation agreement with Hanyang Cyber University to support partners without bachelor's degrees, such as those with junior college or high school diplomas, in obtaining a four-year bachelor's degree. The same program applies to those hired through this specialized high school job fair, allowing them to enroll in Hanyang Cyber University and earn a bachelor's degree if they wish.
