Biden Warns Trump During Christmas Holiday Period
[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Baek Jong-min] President-elect Joe Biden urged President Donald Trump to sign the stimulus bill and the federal government budget, warning that refusal to sign would lead to disastrous consequences.
On the 26th (local time), Biden issued a statement on the transition team's website, emphasizing, "The day after Christmas, millions of families do not know if they can make ends meet because President Donald Trump has not signed the stimulus bill."
Biden continued, "I have been encouraged to see lawmakers respond to the public's demand for bipartisan action and work together. President Trump must ensure that millions of Americans can put food on the table and maintain shelter during the year-end holiday season."
President Trump is spending the Christmas holiday at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida but has delayed signing the $900 billion stimulus bill and the $1.4 trillion federal government budget passed by Congress.
The White House had announced that President Trump would work and make calls for Americans from his vacation spot, but he played golf on both the 24th and 25th. Meanwhile, through Twitter, he repeatedly demanded $2,000 individual cash payments instead of the $600 agreed upon by Congress.
Democratic figures, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, have supported President Trump's demand for $2,000 cash payments, but Republican lawmakers oppose it.
If President Trump vetoes the bill agreed upon by Republican lawmakers, leading to a federal government shutdown or suspension of unemployment benefits, Republican lawmakers will also face backlash.
On the same day, President Trump criticized Republicans for not helping him overturn the election results, urging them to fight, and accused Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell and other Republicans of wanting to do nothing and just let things pass, saying they do not fight.
In other tweets, President Trump pressured and criticized the Department of Justice and the Supreme Court.
