[Asia Economy Reporter Han Seung-gon] The ruling and opposition parties have shown mixed reactions to the court's approval on the 24th of Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol's request for a suspension of the disciplinary action filed against Minister of Justice Chu Mi-ae.
The Democratic Party of Korea expressed both bewilderment and "deep regret" over the court ruling on the same day. Choi In-ho, the party's chief spokesperson, criticized in a statement, "This judicial decision fails to properly reflect the seriousness of the grave misconduct for which the executive branch lawfully decided on disciplinary action."
Choi added, "This ruling undermines the stability of the executive branch and may deepen national division by fostering distrust in the judiciary. We will continue to systematically and strongly pursue prosecutorial reform, which has been underway even before this ruling, and will ensure the smooth launch of the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO)."
The opposition emphasized that this was a "judgment where judicial justice was upheld." Bae Jun-young, spokesperson for the People Power Party, said in a statement, "Now, the Prosecutor General returns to where he belongs," adding, "It feels like a Christmas gift that reassures us that we are fully within the rule of law."
Members of the People Power Party's Legislation and Judiciary Committee stated in a declaration, "Although the President personally attempted to intimidate the judiciary on all fronts, the judiciary chose law and principle," and "On Christmas Eve, South Korea confirmed that the rule of law is not dead. The people of South Korea received a precious Christmas gift."
Kim Woong, a member of the same party, wrote on his Facebook, "It has been confirmed twice that the regime's obstruction of investigations and attempts to control the prosecution over the past few months were wrong," and "Now, the President must apologize to the people."

They are unlikely to stop at this point," and "They will make Prosecutor General Yoon the first investigation target of the CIO and indict him."
Hong Kyung-hee, chief deputy spokesperson of the People’s Party, emphasized in a statement, "We welcome the wise decision of the court, the last bastion of the rule of law."
The Justice Party stated in a statement, "It appears that procedural legitimacy issues significantly influenced the court's judgment," and "Since the court's ruling has been issued, it is appropriate to respect and follow the outcome."
Justice Party chief spokesperson Jung Ho-jin said, "Since the court's ruling has been issued, it is appropriate to respect and follow the outcome," and "We hope that discussions will proceed while respecting prosecutorial reform on one hand and the judgment on the issues raised during Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol's disciplinary process on the other."
Former lawmaker Geum Tae-seop, who left the Democratic Party, emphasized in a Facebook post, "The world that was going crazy has begun to gradually find its place again." He continued, "I hope yesterday's ruling and today's decision will be a small comfort to those who suffered while speaking the truth," referring to the suspension of Prosecutor General Yoon's disciplinary action and the four-year prison sentence given to Jeong Gyeong-sim, wife of former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk and a professor at Dongyang University.
Professor Seo Min, a parasitologist at Dankook University College of Medicine and co-author of the book "A Country Never Experienced Before," also known as the "Cho Kuk Black Book," said, "If one can say 'no' based on legal knowledge despite the tyrant Moon Jae-in glaring and the 180-seat ruling party threatening with the CIO, and the seasoning awaiting the broken-headed kids, that is a true expert."
He further criticized strongly, saying, "An evil regime is maintained with the help of pseudo-experts, but true experts hasten the regime's downfall," and "While sane people cheer the unexpected gift yesterday and today, the broken-headed kids wail at the unexpected thunderbolt."
The Seoul Administrative Court's 12th Administrative Division (Presiding Judge Hong Soon-wook) approved on the 24th Prosecutor General Yoon's request for suspension of the two-month disciplinary suspension filed against Minister Chu Mi-ae.
