[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] A childcare teacher at a daycare center in Daejeon was arrested by the police on charges of assaulting and abusing children.
According to the police and parents on the 23rd, earlier this month, teacher A at a daycare center in Dong-gu, Daejeon, repeatedly hit the heads of 4- to 5-year-old children.
This was captured on the classroom's closed-circuit television (CCTV), showing A hitting the children’s heads and faces multiple times.
A twisted the nose of a crying child and slapped their cheek hard. One child’s mask was even knocked off due to the strong impact.
A parent of one of the children posted on the Blue House National Petition, stating, "The teacher assaulted the children during study time," and "The teacher mercilessly hit children who tried to escape the assault."
About seven children suffered abuse. Some reportedly experienced severe mental distress, including being bitten hard on parts of their bodies.
After reviewing the daycare center’s CCTV footage, the police booked A without detention on charges of violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Child Abuse Crimes.
