According to the Daily Mail on the 22nd (local time), Tony Standen (29) admitted to all her fraudulent activities during a court hearing last month and was sentenced to five months in prison.
In June 2015, Standen lied to her friends, saying, "I have been diagnosed with terminal cervical cancer and only have two months left to live."
She told her friends, "My father is also battling cancer," and said, "I want to enter the wedding hall together before I pass away."
To perfectly deceive those around her, she shaved her head and posted photos on social media that appeared to show her undergoing chemotherapy, sharing detailed updates about her treatment process.
Her friends set up a fundraising page for her and collected 8,500 pounds (about 13 million won) for the wedding expenses. A local businessman also donated 2,000 pounds (about 3 million won) to Standen.
After receiving the donations, Standen held the wedding and went on a honeymoon to Turkey.
It was reported that the Standen couple also visited Germany, Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Italy in March of this year.
She also claimed to have contracted the novel coronavirus.
Due to these actions, her friends began to doubt Standen's health condition.
Eventually, after persistent questioning by her friends, she admitted to her lies.
The judicial authorities sentenced Standen to five months in prison, stating, "She committed serious offenses by repeatedly telling elaborate lies and receiving donations over several months, exploiting the public's sympathy," and ordered her to return the 3 million won donation received from the local businessman.
