Kim Jong-hyo, Gwangju Deputy Mayor, Inspects Snow Removal Boxes in Preparation for Heavy Snowfall
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] On the 23rd, Kim Jong-hyo, Deputy Mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City, inspected the status of automatic snow removal equipment and road snow removal boxes together with citizens at the roads near apartments in Songam-ro, Seo-gu, and Jinwol-dong, Nam-gu, in preparation for heavy snowfall and road icing in winter.
The automatic snow removal equipment is an automatic brine spraying device installed on Songam-ro in Seo-gu. It sprays brine solution, made by dissolving calcium chloride for snow removal and water, automatically from both sides of the road toward the road when it snows or the road is icy, lowering the freezing point to prevent ice formation.
Earlier, Gwangju City formed a Citizen Safety Volunteer Group consisting of 30 members from the Safety Monitor Volunteer Corps and the Autonomous Disaster Prevention Group on the 16th to conduct a comprehensive inspection of 442 snow removal boxes, and inspections have been underway since the 21st.
Snow removal boxes are devices that store sandbags and other materials so that citizens can quickly and autonomously remove snow even on small roads or alleys where the hands of Gwangju City or autonomous districts cannot reach when it snows.
This inspection was carried out in preparation for cases where the sand is insufficient or foreign substances are included, reducing the efficiency of snow removal.
During the inspection, Deputy Mayor Kim Jong-hyo carefully checked the management status of the automatic brine spraying device’s machine room and pipe joints, which were installed to prevent traffic accidents caused by road icing on slopes, and confirmed the snow removal boxes on side roads near the senior welfare facility close to Samik Apartments in Songam-dong, Nam-gu, together with the Citizen Safety Volunteer Group.
He also instructed to maintain and supplement snow removal materials so that citizens can respond in snow removal vulnerable areas.
Deputy Mayor Kim Jong-hyo said, “The Citizen Safety Volunteer Group inspected the snow removal boxes installed throughout the district, removed foreign substances, and supported citizen convenience,” and urged, “Let’s actively promote participation in proactively clearing snow in front of our homes and stores when it snows to create ‘a safe city Gwangju for citizens.’”
