Jeonnam Province Focuses on 'Strengthening Agricultural Competitiveness' to Foster Small and Medium Farmers
Next Year, 39 New Projects in Agricultural Policy Field to Receive 53.8 Billion Won in Support
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province announced on the 23rd that it will support 53.8 billion KRW for 39 new projects in the agricultural policy sector next year, focusing on strengthening agricultural competitiveness and increasing farm household income through the cultivation of small and medium-sized farms.
Along with this, the scale and budget of 48 existing projects will also be significantly expanded.
The province plans to greatly increase projects to strengthen the agricultural competitiveness of small and medium-sized farms next year, following efforts this year to improve farmers' welfare, including the nation's first support for public interest allowances for farmers and fishermen.
This reflects the strong will of the provincial government and the Jeonnam Provincial Council to support the management stability of farmers who have faced difficulties due to the expansion of global agricultural market opening such as FTAs, decreased agricultural product consumption caused by COVID-19, and income reduction due to natural disasters such as heavy rains and typhoons.
In particular, as a new project, 1.5 billion KRW will be provided to foster five small-scale field management entities centered on small and medium-sized farms and to purchase facilities and equipment. In response to the increased demand from farmers due to the expansion of farming scale, 2.3 billion KRW will be invested to build 45 medium-sized (66㎡~165㎡) cold storage units.
Additionally, to respond to the decrease in rural labor, 1,000 agricultural and livestock dump transport equipment units with dump functions for 1-ton agricultural trucks will be provided, and comprehensive diarrhea prevention vaccines for Hanwoo breeding cattle will be supported to prevent deaths caused by livestock diarrhea.
Furthermore, a total of 53.8 billion KRW has been allocated for 39 projects including ▲support for reducing production costs in facility horticulture ▲soil improvement projects for facility greenhouses ▲support for diarrhea prevention vaccines for newborn pigs ▲installation of automatic water level measurement devices in agricultural reservoirs ▲cultivation of young farmers for eco-friendly agricultural product contract farming ▲activation of organic ecological villages ▲construction of agricultural product comprehensive processing centers and agricultural specialty product complex distribution centers ▲and establishment of a rice processing Re-Cycling platform.
The field management facility and equipment support project, which supported the scaling and organization of rice farming households, will expand from 9 locations this year to 18 locations next year. Rice drying and storage facilities will increase from 5 to 8 locations, and the installation of small cold storage units for agricultural products will increase from 667 to 800 units.
In addition, the scale of 48 projects including support for rice drying and storage facilities, agricultural safety equipment support, soil ditch structuring, installation of agricultural machinery rental centers, and support for women farmers' happiness vouchers will be expanded, with an additional budget of 81.9 billion KRW planned.
