On the 23rd, Incheon City held an online kickoff briefing for the 'Dongincheon Station 2030 Station Front Project' at the Mirim Theater near Dongincheon Station.
The briefing was organized to announce that the Urban Regeneration Activation Plan (draft), prepared by Incheon City and Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), was finally approved on the 21st by the Urban Regeneration Special Committee chaired by the Prime Minister, confirming national funding support, and to explain the home repair support project to residents, which will begin in January next year.
Previously, the Dongincheon Station 2030 Station Front Project was selected as a government urban regeneration New Deal project in December last year.
With the final approval of the Urban Regeneration Activation Plan, Incheon City and LH will invest 230 billion KRW by 2024 around Dongincheon Station to promote the urban regeneration New Deal project.
The detailed projects include the development of a complex hub at the North Plaza of Dongincheon Station and Songhyeon Free Market, expansion of public parking lots, support for home repairs and remodeling, and maintenance of aging sewage pipelines.
Among these, the home repair support project will target areas where construction activities have been restricted for 13 years and where residential conditions urgently need improvement. After a process of collecting opinions through resident briefings, construction will begin in January next year.
The area around Dongincheon Station was one of the busiest commercial districts in Incheon until the early 1990s, but it rapidly declined as new town commercial districts such as Songdo and Cheongna International City emerged.
Through the urban regeneration New Deal project, Incheon City plans to develop the Dongincheon Station area into the center of the old downtown where people in their 20s and 30s enjoy visiting, just like during its heyday, by 2030.
