Jeongeup-si Promotes Prevention Projects to Create a City Safe from Natural Disasters
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk is promoting proactive disaster prevention projects to create a city safe from natural disasters.
The city plans to focus all efforts on expanding the infrastructure to prepare for various disasters and calamities with the determination to build a citizen-centered safe city.
On the 22nd, the city announced plans to establish a platform for systematic natural disaster prevention and response, including steep slope maintenance projects, natural disaster risk improvement district maintenance projects, and strengthening disaster early warning systems for proactive disaster prevention and rapid disaster response.
First, to eliminate risk factors in the steep slope collapse risk area around Maejuk-ri, Sannae-myeon, the city secured a total project cost of 1.2 billion KRW and plans to start the maintenance project from next year.
The steep slopes around Maejuk-ri have rock formations extending to Local Road No. 55, posing a risk of falling rocks to residents and vehicle traffic, especially during natural disasters such as heavy rain and typhoons.
Accordingly, the city is currently conducting a detailed design service to prevent falling rocks and slope collapse, and plans to proceed with the project after verifying its appropriateness and feasibility.
Additionally, the city is pushing forward the "Jeongnyangcheon Natural Disaster Risk Improvement District Maintenance Project" in Jeongnyang-ri, Sanwoe-myeon, which is expected to be completed next year.
Wonjeong Village in Sanwoe-myeon is a disaster-vulnerable area where flooding frequently occurs due to the narrow river width during heavy rains.
To resolve this, the city has secured a total project cost of 5.98 billion KRW since 2019 and is currently progressing with a completion rate of 54%.
Along with this, additional disaster early warning systems will be installed to quickly transmit weather alerts and disaster situations.
The city currently operates 374 disaster early warning system sites and has invested about 1 billion KRW from special grants and other funds from last year to this year to install 209 sites, strengthening disaster prevention efforts.
Next year, the city plans to invest about 100 million KRW to promptly deliver disaster information to citizens and focus on minimizing casualties and property damage.
