Chosun University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation Signs Technology Transfer Contract for Jeonho Leaf Extract to Improve Arthritis
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Chosun University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation announced on the 23rd that it has jointly developed a therapeutic composition using leaf extract of Jeonho (WE-LAS), which has significant anti-inflammatory and arthritis-improving effects, with CSTech Co., Ltd., and signed a technology transfer contract worth 600 million KRW.
This technology transfer contract was arranged through cooperation with the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology, and the signing ceremony was held at 3 p.m. on the 21st in the Chosun University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation conference room.
Professor Kim Chun-sung (Department of Dentistry, Dental School) and Moon Sung-min, head of the research institute at CSTech Co., Ltd., recently revealed that the plant-derived medicinal material from the domestic native plant ‘Jeonho’ has excellent effects in preventing and treating arthritis through clinical trials.
Recently, research to find natural bioactive substances for the prevention and treatment of various diseases from medicinal plants has been actively conducted worldwide.
In particular, with the increase in the elderly population, degenerative diseases, especially degenerative arthritis, have become a major issue, and various commercialization efforts are being made to discover and improve treatment substances.
Accordingly, Professor Kim Chun-sung’s research team at Chosun University Dental School has been developing materials for treating degenerative arthritis for many years.
Using the native plant Jeonho (Anthriscus sylvestris Hoffmann), they confirmed significant anti-inflammatory and arthritis-improving effects and mechanisms.
Since 2017, supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Korea Institute of Planning and Evaluation for Technology in Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the research team succeeded in clinical trials this year and proceeded with technology transfer for commercialization.
The research team obtained individual certification for commercialization of health functional foods using a composition for arthritis prevention and treatment containing Jeonho leaf extract (WE-LAS) as an active ingredient, and plans to further expand research into pharmaceutical material development.
