eBay Korea's Global Integrated Shipping System 'eGS' Sees 40% Increase in November Shipment Volume
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] eBay Korea announced on the 23rd that the volume of shipments through its global integrated shipping system ‘eGS,’ launched to support small and medium sellers’ overseas exports, increased by 40% in November compared to the previous month.
eGS (eBay Korea Global Shipping) has conducted beta tests by recruiting sellers on a first-come, first-served basis six times until September since its launch in May, and has been officially providing the service with user tools open since October.
Previously, domestic small and medium sellers had to individually contract with shipping companies when starting overseas exports, making it difficult to gain competitiveness in shipping costs. This difficulty was further compounded by price increases and delivery delays in various shipping services due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
To address this, eBay Korea directly contracted with shipping companies that provide high-quality delivery and offered competitive shipping cost benefits to all sellers using eGS.
Currently, when using ‘eGS Standard,’ it is on average 25% cheaper than the Korea Post’s international shipping service ‘K-Packet,’ and ‘eGS Express’ is on average 45% cheaper than International Express Mail Service (EMS). Standard is a general shipping service available in six countries including the United States, Australia, Russia, and the United Kingdom, while Express is an express service available worldwide.
Thanks to its high competitiveness, the volume of shipments using eGS in November increased by about 40% compared to the previous month. The average sales growth rate of sellers using the eGS service over the past three months also exceeds 20%. In particular, the volume of European shipping services in November recorded a growth rate close to 60% compared to the previous month.
Some sellers resumed European exports, which had been difficult due to COVID-19, through eGS, achieving an average sales growth of about 110% from September to November compared to the previous three months.
Lee Joong-bok, head of the CBT business team at eBay Korea, said, “eGS is a system designed to practically assist small and medium sellers struggling with overseas exports,” and added, “We will strive to develop eGS into a comprehensive fulfillment service that handles all processes including storage, delivery, and customs clearance in the future.”
Meanwhile, the eGS system’s logistics and delivery are handled by ‘Rincos,’ eBay Korea’s official logistics partner, while partner ‘Barunson’ is responsible for automatic order information collection and automatic entry of tracking numbers through account linkage. The seller tools provided by Barunson are 100% compatible with the eBay system and feature Korea’s first automated system that allows simultaneous registration of logistics services.
