Photo Contest for 'Sunrise and Sunset' Instead of Maebongsan Sunrise Viewing

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Sung) will hold New Year events in 2021 as non-face-to-face online events.
Guro-gu announced on the 23rd, "To prevent the spread of COVID-19, we have prepared a plan to hold various year-end and New Year events online," adding, "As part of this, instead of the New Year's sunrise event, we will hold a 'Sunrise and Sunset Photo Contest.'"
Every year on New Year's Day, about 1,000 residents have gathered at Maebongsan to watch the sunrise together and pray for health and good fortune during the sunrise event.
However, due to difficulties in holding gatherings caused by COVID-19, the 'Sunrise and Sunset Online Photo Contest' has been prepared so that people can welcome the New Year without gathering.
The contest will be held from the 24th of this month until January 3rd of next year.
The contest content includes photos taken within the last three years at sunrise or sunset spots in the Guro area (mountains, parks, streets, buildings, etc.).
Those who wish to participate can submit one photo along with a brief description through the district office website.
Guro-gu will select excellent works through judging and plans to publish them on the district office blog and the February issue of the district newsletter next year. Among the participants, 30 people will be selected by lottery and given cultural gift certificates (20,000 KRW).
A Guro-gu official said, "We ask for much interest and participation in this meaningful online contest that allows people to welcome the New Year and promote Guro's attractions," adding, "As COVID-19 is rampant, please spend the year-end and New Year period calmly."
Meanwhile, Guro-gu will also hold the New Year's greeting meeting and district administration briefing online to share New Year greetings with residents and share the direction of district administration.
First, the New Year's greeting meeting video will be released on January 1. The video consists of Mayor Lee Sung's New Year's address and New Year greetings from key figures such as members of the National Assembly and city and district council members.
The district administration briefing video will also be broadcast from 9 a.m. on the 8th. Mayor Lee Sung will directly explain the 2021 district administration direction, major work plans, financial status, and more.
