Jinseongjun Proposes Housing Policy Basic Principle, 'One Household One Home' Specified in Law
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] Jin Seong-jun, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, on the 21st, introduced a bill to amend the Basic Housing Act to legally stipulate the basic principle of housing policy as owning one house per household.
Jin explained, "The basic principle of housing policy is that one household owns and resides in one house, ensuring that housing does not disrupt the market for the purpose of asset accumulation or speculation, and establishing regulations so that housing is preferentially supplied to the homeless and those who intend to actually reside, thereby practically securing the housing rights of the people."

He emphasized that to practically guarantee the housing rights of the people, housing must be preferentially supplied to homeless actual residents. According to the '2019 Housing Survey Results' announced by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport this year, about 4 out of 10 people are classified as homeless. It was also reported that the period of homelessness for homeless households is 11.2 years, and the minimum time taken to acquire a house for the first time in their lifetime after becoming the head of the household is 6.9 years.
