Sejong, Call for Candidate Sites for Waste Disposal Facilities
[Asia Economy (Sejong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Sejong City has re-announced the decision on the site selection plan for a waste treatment facility and is publicly recruiting candidate sites.
According to the city on the 22nd, the waste treatment facility will be built as a resident-friendly eco-friendly complex town applying advanced environmental science technology.
The facility will operate with an incineration plant capable of processing 400 tons per day and a food waste recycling facility with a capacity of 80 tons.
Eligibility for candidate sites requires a site area of at least 50,000㎡, with over 80% resident consent from household heads living within 300m of the application site boundary, and over 80% landowner consent for sale.
Applications can be made by individuals, organizations, clan or village representatives, and the deadline is February 19 of next year through the Resource Circulation Division at City Hall.
Resident convenience facilities such as swimming pools, gyms, and jjimjilbangs will be installed in the facility area, and the support budget has been increased from the original 12 billion KRW to a maximum of 24 billion KRW. The city also emphasizes that the resident support fund will be expanded from 500 million KRW to 1 billion KRW.
To promote the project, the city has been touring eup, myeon, and dong districts since the 5th of last month to explain the necessity of creating an eco-friendly waste treatment facility and the benefits that will return to the surrounding areas when selecting the project site. In the future, they plan to resolve local residents' questions through visits to advanced treatment facilities.
Other detailed information about the public recruitment can be found in the announcement section on the city hall website.
Meanwhile, due to the increase in the total population of Sejong, the amount of household waste generated surged from an average of 96 tons per day in 2016 to 178 tons this year.

On the other hand, existing treatment facilities have limitations in processing household waste, so waste is outsourced for treatment, with treatment costs reaching 9 billion KRW this year alone, making the installation of a waste treatment facility urgent.
