Gimpo Urban Railroad Stops for Over an Hour...Passengers Evacuate onto Tracks
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] During rush hour, a city railway train traveling between Gimpo Airport in Seoul and Gimpo Hangang New Town in Gyeonggi suddenly stopped in operation, causing about 200 passengers to be trapped for over an hour.
According to Gimpo Gold Line, the operator of the Gimpo City Railway, at around 6:35 p.m. on the 21st, a train suddenly stopped on the tracks between Gimpo Airport Station and Gochon Station on the Gimpo City Railway. Due to this accident, about 200 passengers were trapped inside the train for more than an hour during the evening commute.
Additionally, on the entire up and down lines of the Gimpo City Railway, 18 two-car trains were each waiting at 10 stations, causing inconvenience to passengers.
A Gimpo Gold Line official said, "An issue occurred and emergency measures are underway," adding, "The exact cause has not yet been identified."
Gimpo Gold Line took measures to evacuate about 200 passengers trapped in the accident train by having them disembark and move to Gochon Station through the evacuation path installed in the middle of the up and down tracks.
Also, the accident train will be pushed by another train from behind and moved to the Gimpo Hangang Vehicle Depot near the terminal station, Yangchon Station.
At the time of the accident, the train was operating from Gimpo Airport Station toward Gochon Station and was an unmanned train, so there was no driver on board.

A Gimpo Gold Line official stated, "After the issue occurred, a train safety operator was immediately deployed to the affected train," and added, "Once all passengers have evacuated to the stations, other trains waiting at different stations will be operated immediately."
