The signing ceremony was conducted in writing without a separate event in a non-face-to-face manner in accordance with the government's social distancing levels and quarantine guidelines to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). This agreement was promoted with the purpose of jointly recognizing the need to strengthen software capabilities and career education for students with disabilities in preparation for the 4th Industrial Revolution era, and actively utilizing the human and material resources of society to revitalize career exploration and career education for students with disabilities.
The National Institute of Special Education is a national institution representing special education in Korea, conducting various research and projects including special education research and surveys, training and informatization projects, curriculum and textbook development, career and vocational education, human rights protection, and support for higher and lifelong education for persons with disabilities.
Based on this agreement, the National Institute of Special Education plans to actively support Audi Volkswagen Korea in cooperating with schools and teachers to operate educational programs for students with disabilities. Audi Volkswagen Korea will develop and implement educational programs to nurture talents required in future society and seek opportunities for students with disabilities to explore career paths.
With the support of the National Institute of Special Education, Audi Volkswagen Korea developed the Barrier-Free Tumoroad School program. Applying sign language and other methods to improve class accessibility for students with disabilities, the program covers topics such as ▲ automobile structure and driving principles ▲ future mobility concepts ▲ automobile industry and future jobs ▲ future city development, and allows students with disabilities to directly implement autonomous driving functions using coding robot cars, which are the core of the program. This program is currently being piloted for students in special classes at special and general schools and will be expanded to more special education institutions starting next year.
