Gangwon Provincial Police Agency, 'No Time or Place Restrictions'... Special Crackdown on Drunk Driving
Special Crime Prevention Activities for Vulnerable Areas Until January 3 Next Year
Strict Punishment Policy for Passengers in Drunk Driving Vehicles and Habitual Drunk Drivers
[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] The Gangwon Provincial Police Agency will launch a "Year-end and New Year Special Crime Prevention Activity" from the 21st of this month until January 3rd of next year to prevent crimes that infringe on people's livelihoods, such as incidents and accidents that frequently occur during the year-end and New Year period.
On the 21st, the Gangwon Police Agency announced, "We plan to focus police capabilities such as permanent units, detectives, community police, and cooperative organizations on vulnerable locations to carry out public safety activities."
In particular, local police have been instructed to conduct preliminary assessments of businesses where single women work and other establishments vulnerable to robbery and theft, and for crime prevention diagnosis teams to conduct detailed assessments of urgently needed improvements to establish self-defense security systems at each police station in the province, the agency ordered.
Special crackdowns on drunk driving will also be conducted until January 3rd of next year. Each police station will conduct joint crackdowns at least three times a week in areas and time zones with frequent drunk driving accidents, and will also implement "spot crackdowns," where enforcement locations are changed every 20 to 30 minutes according to local characteristics.
Investigations will be conducted into whether passengers in drunk driving vehicles have instigated or aided the offense, and policies have been established to arrest and detain habitual drunk drivers and seize their vehicles.
