View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Nearly 100 new confirmed cases were added in one day at temporary screening clinics set up to find 'hidden infections' of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the Seoul metropolitan area.
According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) on the 21st, 94 new confirmed cases tested positive in anonymous tests at temporary screening clinics in the metropolitan area the previous day. By region, there were 35 in Seoul, 54 in Gyeonggi, and 5 in Incheon.
Since the temporary screening clinics began operation on the 14th, a total of 479 confirmed cases have been accumulated over the week. The number of anonymous tests conducted in one day was 25,753.
By type of test, 24,739 cases (96%) underwent 'nasopharyngeal swab polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests' using specimens collected from the nasal cavity.
Following that, 15 cases took 'saliva specimen PCR tests,' and 996 cases underwent 'rapid antigen tests,' which can provide results in as fast as 30 minutes.
The health authorities conduct a secondary nasopharyngeal swab PCR test if the rapid antigen test is positive; there were 3 secondary tests conducted the previous day.
Anonymous testing at temporary screening clinics in the metropolitan area will continue until January 3rd of next year. Anyone can get tested by providing only a mobile phone number, regardless of symptoms.

From the 14th until midnight of this day, a total of 189,753 anonymous tests have been conducted at temporary screening clinics in the metropolitan area over the week. Currently, testing is being conducted at a total of 134 locations: 54 in Seoul, 70 in Gyeonggi, and 10 in Incheon.
