'Minari' Youn Yuh-jung Smoothly Advances Toward Oscar Best Supporting Actress Award

Youn Yuh-jung (73) from the film 'Minari' continued her winning streak ahead of next year's American Academy Awards.
According to the American entertainment media Variety, Youn Yuh-jung was selected as the Best Supporting Actress at the 2020 Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards held on the 20th (local time), beating Amanda Seyfried of 'Mank' among others. This is her third trophy this month. She previously won Best Supporting Actress at the Sunset Circle Awards and the Boston Critics Association. She is also nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Chicago and Florida Critics Association Awards held on the 21st.
Youn portrayed Soon-ja in 'Minari,' directed by Lee Isaac Chung, based on his autobiographical story. She played the grandmother of a Korean-American family who migrated to Arkansas, USA, in the 1980s. She worked alongside other family members played by Steven Yeun, Han Ye-ri, Alan Kim, and Noel Cho.
'Minari' has already been recognized for its artistic merit, winning the Audience Award and Best Acting Award (Steven Yeun) at the Denver International Film Festival, the Jury Prize and Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival, the Audience Award and Actor's Guild Award at the Middleburg Film Festival, and the Audience Award and Jimmy Stewart Legacy Award at the Heartland Film Festival.
