On the 21st, Hyundai Motor announced that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the ‘Mighty Electric Vehicle Postal Logistics Transport Vehicle Demonstration Project’ with the Korea Post Logistics Support Group. The signing ceremony was held non-face-to-face and attended by Martin Zeilinger, Vice President of Hyundai Motor’s Commercial Development Division, and Jangsoo Cheon, Chairman of the Korea Post Logistics Support Group.
Through this agreement, Hyundai Motor and the Korea Post Logistics Support Group plan to pilot operate the medium-duty truck ‘Mighty Electric Vehicle’ as a postal logistics transport vehicle in the metropolitan area for one year starting from July next year. The main purpose is to deploy the pre-developed vehicle in an actual postal logistics transport environment and develop a vehicle optimized for commercial vehicle customers’ driving conditions based on data obtained during the pilot operation.
According to the agreement, Hyundai Motor will be responsible for ▲manufacturing and supplying the vehicles ▲providing technical support to improve vehicle product quality. The Korea Post Logistics Support Group will support comprehensive services necessary for vehicle operation, including ▲vehicle operation ▲basic maintenance ▲providing driving data.
The pre-developed Mighty Electric Vehicle for the demonstration project is Hyundai Motor’s first medium-duty EV truck to be launched under the brand, equipped with a 128kWh lithium-ion battery that can travel up to approximately 200km on a single charge.
Considering the driving environment of postal logistics transport vehicles moving from Seoul to the Gyeonggi area, Hyundai Motor selected the Mighty Electric Vehicle, which can travel up to about 200km on a single charge, as the pilot operation vehicle.
Meanwhile, the Mighty is the most widely operated medium-duty truck in domestic logistics transport. Currently, the Korea Post Logistics Support Group operates a total of 249 Mighty trucks. Gradually converting diesel engine postal logistics transport vehicles to electric vehicles will not only reduce fuel costs but also help improve environmental issues within urban areas.
Through this collaboration, Hyundai Motor aims to expand its commercial electric vehicle lineup to strengthen its leadership in eco-friendly vehicles and contribute to the government’s eco-friendly policies addressing various emerging environmental issues by promoting eco-friendly transport vehicles.
