Gyeongbuk Province Names Pohang City and Yecheon County as Best Local Governments in 'Food and Public Hygiene Management'
In the Comprehensive Evaluation of 23 Cities and Counties... Pohang City's Safe Plate Challenge and Yecheon County's Safe Restaurant Designation Recognized as 'Best Practices'
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] Gyeongbuk Province announced on the 21st that Pohang City and Yecheon County received the Grand Prize in the comprehensive evaluation of food and public hygiene management policies for 2020 conducted among 23 cities and counties.
The highest awards went to Gimcheon City and Chilgok County, while the Excellence Awards were given to Gumi City, Sangju City, Gunwi County, and Cheongdo County. In the category-specific awards, Gyeongju City was selected for food policy, Andong City for food safety, and Gyeongsan City for public hygiene.
This year's evaluation focused on quarantine measures in the hygiene sector in response to the outbreak of COVID-19.
Pohang City was recognized for distinctively promoting food culture improvement projects such as self-directed quarantine in hygiene establishments and the Safe Plate Challenge. Yecheon County was acknowledged for actively promoting the creation of a safe dining environment by designating Safe Restaurants and integrating the hygiene rating system with model restaurants.
Gyeongbuk Province will not hold a separate awards ceremony to prevent the spread of COVID-19 following the implementation of social distancing level 2 from midnight on the 8th, and will individually deliver plaques and prize money.

Kim Jin-hyun, Director of the Welfare and Health Bureau of Gyeongbuk Province, said, "We send encouragement to the cities and counties that have worked hard on quarantine management in hygiene establishments and food safety to prevent the spread of COVID-19 this year," and added, "We ask residents to thoroughly follow quarantine rules while using restaurants, beauty salons, and other facilities."
