View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] The People Power Party held an emergency meeting to conduct a party-wide comprehensive investigation of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and decided to refrain from private gatherings as much as possible until the end of the year. After Yoon Hee-seok, the party spokesperson, tested positive, the leadership including Emergency Response Committee Chairman Kim Jong-in and Floor Leader Joo Ho-young underwent testing and received negative results.
On the 20th, the People Power Party held an urgent video emergency response committee meeting and made this decision, spokesperson Bae Jun-young reported.
Spokesperson Bae said, "All emergency response committee members attended the urgent video meeting held from 2:00 PM for 36 minutes today," adding, "All attendees completed COVID-19 testing. The test results are expected to be notified by tomorrow at the earliest."
He continued, "We proposed to the Speaker of the National Assembly to set up a temporary screening clinic within the National Assembly and resolved to take the lead in eradicating COVID-19 with an emergency determination equivalent to Level 3."
At the meeting, Chairman Kim said, "As the number of confirmed cases increases and the situation inevitably escalates to Level 3, we must prepare in advance for what measures to take," adding, "When Level 3 is reached, the People Power Party Policy Committee should research and present alternatives regarding the economic and social issues that arise."
Policy Committee Chairman Lee Jong-bae urged the government to promptly execute the third emergency disaster relief fund and decided to study various alternatives to overcome COVID-19 and report them to the emergency response committee.

However, despite the COVID-19 situation, they agreed to proceed without disruption on National Assembly issues, including ministerial nominee hearings. As a resolution, they appointed and approved Jeong Jin-seok, a five-term National Assembly member and the longest-serving member within the party, as the chairman of the nomination management committee for the April 7 by-elections. Jeong has served as the party floor leader, senior secretary for political affairs at the Presidential Office, and secretary-general of the National Assembly.
