'Global Tourism City Leap' Pohang City Marine Cable Car Groundbreaking Ceremony

On the 18th, Pohang City held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Pohang Marine Cable Car installation project, which crosses Yeongildae Beach, at the Yeongildae Seaside Pavilion Square.
View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] Pohang City, Gyeongbuk Province, announced on the 20th that it held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Pohang Marine Cable Car installation project crossing Yeongildae Beach at the Yeongildae Seaside Pavilion Square on the 18th.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Mayor Lee Kang-deok, Jeong Dal-gyo, CEO of Youngilman Marine Cable Car Co., Ltd., project officials, as well as about 40 local city and provincial council members and residents. The event was conducted in strict compliance with enhanced social distancing (Level 2) quarantine rules.
The Pohang Marine Cable Car, spanning a total length of 1.8 km crossing 100 meters above ground from Pohang Passenger Terminal to Hwanho Park, is a private investment project with a total project cost of 79.8 billion KRW. After completion in the first half of 2022, 39 gondolas with 10 seats each will undergo a three-month test operation before commencing normal service.
The Pohang Marine Cable Car is a key project for the development of the Yeongilman Tourist Special Zone and a stepping stone for the development of the surrounding area. It is expected to generate 100.6 billion KRW in production and added value and create approximately 1,400 new jobs.

Mayor Lee Kang-deok of Pohang emphasized, "As a new local tourism resource, we will focus all administrative efforts on developing package-type products linked with existing tourism resources such as the Pohang International Fireworks Festival, so that it can establish itself as a marine landmark."
