The "Songpa Nanum Power Plant" is a public interest power plant that generates electricity using solar power and utilizes the operating profits for reinvestment in the Nanum Power Plant and support for vulnerable groups.
The district is realizing a new form of "energy welfare" that combines environment and welfare.
Through this project, the district plans to support households receiving basic living subsidies and those in welfare blind spots by replacing old home appliances with high-efficiency ones and providing cold wave preparedness supplies to ensure a warm winter without shortage.
The support targets are energy crisis households such as basic living subsidy recipients and lower-income groups. Each neighborhood community center and the social welfare department directly visited these households and selected 81 households.
In December, the district plans to deliver customized products needed for each household, including 21 washing machines, 22 refrigerators, and 38 duck feather blankets to 81 energy-poor households.
In addition, the district is actively carrying out energy poverty support projects by investing a total of about 350 million KRW from the operating profits of the Songpa Nanum Power Plant, including ▲support for overdue public utility bills of energy-poor households ▲replacement support for LED lighting for vulnerable groups ▲energy efficiency projects for social welfare facilities.
Also, in response to the COVID-19 situation, the district has increased the support limit for overdue public utility bills for energy-poor households, receiving great responses from local residents through customized projects.
Meanwhile, Songpa-gu, in cooperation with the public interest organization Energy Nanum and Peace Corporation, has built and operated the 1st plant in Goheung, Jeollanam-do (2009), the 2nd in Uiseong, Gyeongsangbuk-do (2010), and the 3rd (2012) and 4th (2013) Songpa Nanum Power Plants within the Songpa Resource Circulation Park. The 5th plant, planned and built independently, has been operating since August 2020.
