SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won Appointed Vice President of the Olympic Council of Asia... First Korean to Hold the Position
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Chey Tae-won, Chairman of SK Group and President of the Korea Handball Federation, has been appointed as Vice President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).
According to the Korea Handball Federation on the 18th, Chairman Chey was appointed as Vice President and Executive Committee member at the 39th OCA General Assembly held on the 17th in Muscat, Oman.
Chairman Chey served as the Vice President in charge of sports federations at OCA, and the newly established position of Vice President overseeing sports federations is responsible for managing 90 sports federations across Asia. This is the first time a Korean has been appointed as an elected Vice President of the OCA.
The OCA is an international Olympic organization that oversees Asian sports, including the selection of Asian Games host cities and event management, with 45 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) from Asian countries as members.
Additionally, the OCA Executive Committee is the highest decision-making policy body that supervises and directs the preparation of major international sports events hosted by the OCA and makes key decisions.
The Handball Federation stated, "With Chairman Chey Tae-won's appointment as OCA Vice President, it is expected that South Korea's influence and status in OCA, where Middle Eastern countries have strong presence, will be enhanced."
