The "LS Electric National Underwater Photography Contest" has been held since 2013 with the purpose of sharing the mysteries of the underwater world with the public and preserving the sea clear and blue for generations to come.
This year, a total of about 310 works were submitted in two categories, underwater photography and marine environment, until September. After evaluation by a panel of experts from various fields, a total of 42 works were selected, including 22 in the underwater photography category and 20 in the marine environment category.
The grand prize winners were photographer Seungcheol Yang’s "Sangalchi Yo" and photographer Mandon Heo’s "Jellyfish and Diver."
Seungcheol Yang’s "Sangalchi Yo" was taken in Anilao, Philippines, known as the holy land of Muck Diving, in December last year. It captures the fantastic image of the deep-sea dwelling Regalecus russellii (Sangalchi) spreading its large fins like wearing a dress with wide lapels and dancing.
Mandon Heo’s "Jellyfish and Diver," taken in August this year in Gangneung, Gangwon Province, depicts a large jellyfish and a diver chasing behind it, forming a duo underwater.
In addition, three works won excellence awards and five works won encouragement awards. The winning works of this contest will be exhibited until mid-January at LS Tower (Anyang) and the first-floor lobby of LS Yongsan Tower.

LS Electric Chairman Ja-kyun Koo said, "It is meaningful that the contest, held to share the beauty of the sea that is hard to experience in daily life through photographs and to discover and support domestic underwater photographers, has reached its eighth year. I hope that the public, who are increasingly physically and mentally fatigued due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, will find some comfort through the underwater photography works."
