‘Targeting Solo Diners’… Cuckoo’s Ultra-Compact Rice Cooker Sales Increase 30% Year-on-Year
Compact Rice Cooker Equipped with Features and Design Tailored for Solo Diners, New Growth Engine
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] Cuckoo Electronics announced on the 17th that its compact rice cookers have been showing steady sales growth.
This year, due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), the frequency of eating at home increased, leading to a positive response from consumers for Cuckoo's compact rice cookers.
According to Cuckoo, the total sales volume of compact rice cookers from January to October this year increased by 14% compared to the same period last year.
Considering the increase in single-person households and the rise of homebodies and solo diners due to COVID-19, Cuckoo expanded consumer choices by consecutively launching a 3-person egg rice cooker in November last year, followed by a 2-person Marshmallow Mini rice cooker and a 1-person Sodam rice cooker this year.
As a result, sales of Cuckoo's ultra-compact rice cookers for three persons or fewer increased by 30% from January to October compared to the same period last year, driving the sales of compact rice cookers.

A Cuckoo Electronics official said, "By expanding the compact rice cooker lineup with ultra-compact products optimized for 1-2 person households this year, we strengthened our competitiveness within the industry, receiving a good response from solo diners and continuing strong sales. Ultra-compact rice cookers are expected to show steady growth due to the home-cooked meal trend caused by COVID-19 and the continuously increasing number of single-person households."
