SK Group Donates 12 Billion Won for Neighborly Love Fundraising
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] SK Group donated 12 billion KRW in neighborly love donations to the Community Chest of Korea.
On the 17th, SK announced that Lee Hyung-hee, Chairman of the SK SUPEX Council SV Committee, delivered 12 billion KRW in donations to the Community Chest of Korea located in Jeong-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul. Since 1999, SK has donated neighborly love funds annually, with a cumulative donation amount reaching 176 billion KRW including this year.
In addition to the neighborly love donations, SK has carried out various activities throughout the year to pursue the happiness of all stakeholders. Especially in the unprecedented crisis situation caused by the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), SK has quietly played the role of a corporate-level 'safety net' to strengthen and make the existing welfare system more robust and detailed.
First, SK Group has continuously provided group training facilities according to the spread of COVID-19. Since the end of last month, 265 rooms at SK Academy in Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do, SK Telecom Talent Development Center in Icheon-si, and SK Muui Training Center in Incheon have been sequentially provided as COVID-19 residential treatment centers. These facilities were also provided as temporary living facilities or residential treatment centers in March and August.
Additionally, to help resolve the blood shortage caused by COVID-19, about 2,300 group members participated in a blood donation relay campaign from May to July. Notably, Chairman Chey Tae-won, upon hearing the news, made a surprise visit to the event without prior notice and joined the blood donation.
SK Group also conducted safety net activities for vulnerable groups. Earlier this month, through over 1,000 welfare institutions nationwide, 55,600 heads of kimchi for kimjang were delivered to neighbors in need. In August, SK donated 2 billion KRW to the National Disaster Relief Association to help citizens affected by heavy rains quickly return to their daily lives.

During March and April, when COVID-19 rapidly spread in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions, SK delivered happiness lunchboxes to 1,500 children at risk of missing meals. These children usually relied on school meals during the semester, but with school openings delayed due to COVID-19, they faced the risk of missing meals. In response, SK partnered with social enterprises to provide lunchboxes to their homes on weekdays and side dishes on weekends.
