Lighting the Flame of Healing! ... Creating the 'Bitgeori' in the Hongdae Area of Mapo-gu
Artists and Designers Transform Hongdae Walking Street and Festival Street into Streets of Light Art... Delivering Messages of Healing and Hope, Christmas Tree Installation and Lighting
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) will operate a ‘Light Street’ throughout the Hongdae area from December 15, starting with the lighting of the Christmas tree on Hongdae Festival Street, until mid-March next year.
To deliver messages of healing and hope to residents exhausted by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, the district collaborated with artists and designers specializing in light sculptures to create a ‘Healing Light for Everyone in the City’ themed light street along Hongdae Walking Street and Hongdae Festival Street.
As a result, six beautiful light spaces were established throughout the Hongdae area: ▲Path of Light and Art ▲Path of Imagination ▲Together Plaza ▲Garden of Light ▲Sky Plaza ▲Fantasy Plaza.
Due to the recent spread of community infections, intervals were maintained between each section to prevent crowding and encourage socially distanced viewing for safety.
In the light street section created along Hongdae Walking Street, street tree lighting was installed to create an emotional light space.
Additionally, red lighting was continuously expressed to symbolize the movement of a heartbeat, strongly conveying a message of hope about ‘being alive’ that can be felt as we welcome the new year.
On the travel stage above the Mapo Tourism Information Center, moon and star sculptures were placed under the theme of ‘Sky Plaza’ to provide a distinctive photo zone, along with approximately 10-meter-long angel wings, offering a unique spatial beauty.
Moreover, a mosaic-style horse sculpture delivers vigorous energy, and features such as imagination balloons, magic mirrors, lighting balls, emotional neon, and landmark lettering were installed throughout the light street sections to create distinctive photo zones, allowing visitors to enjoy abundant sights and the fun of taking photos while walking the street.
Along with this, a unique 6-meter-high large Christmas tree with a crystal feel was installed on Hongdae Festival Street using 3D film and lasers.
The large tree, which creates a sophisticated and stylish atmosphere, emits bright hope and healing energy into the night street so that many people looking at it can overcome COVID-19, gain courage, and welcome a hopeful 2021.
