H5 AI Antigen Detected in Slaughterhouse Inspection at Meat Duck Farm in Gochang, Jeonbuk
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyunjung] The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters for Avian Influenza announced on the 16th that H5 type avian influenza (AI) antigen was detected in the slaughterhouse inspection of a meat duck farm in Gochang, Jeonbuk. Detailed testing is currently underway, and the determination of whether it is highly pathogenic is expected to be released within 1 to 3 days.
The headquarters immediately dispatched an initial response team to the site and is implementing preemptive quarantine measures, including movement control of the farm and slaughterhouse, and disposal of all poultry within the slaughterhouse.

A representative of the headquarters stated, "As a result of on-site inspections of migratory bird habitats conducted by the central inspection team, despite continuous requests for cooperation, people fishing and taking walks were found at Miho Stream (Eumseong, Chungbuk) and Seomgang River (Wonju, Gangwon)." They urged, "To prevent avian influenza, please refrain from entering migratory bird habitats for reasons such as fishing, walking, or photography." They added, "Farmers must thoroughly disinfect the inside of the livestock barns, change boots, apply slaked lime around the farm, and immediately report any abnormalities in the reared poultry to the quarantine authorities."
