30 New COVID-19 Cases Reported in Gyeongnam... Cumulative Total Reaches 923 (Comprehensive Report 2)
Cluster Infections Continue at Daycare Centers, Elderly Care Weekly Centers, and Music Clubs
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] As the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in South Korea shows no signs of slowing down, 30 new cases were reported in Gyeongnam in a single day.
Gyeongnam Province announced on the 16th at 5 PM that 30 confirmed cases occurred: 10 in Changwon, 4 each in Gimhae and Geoje, 3 in Sacheon, 2 each in Changnyeong, Miryang, and Yangsan, and 1 each in Jinju, Haman, and Hapcheon.
In Changwon, a woman in her 50s with an unknown infection route and a woman in her 20s who had contact with case number 836 tested positive and were classified as cases 897 and 905, respectively. Additionally, three family members of case 891, confirmed the previous day, tested positive and were classified as cases 918 to 920.
Two children from a daycare center in Changwon also tested positive and were classified as cases 921 and 922. Currently, four individuals including children and staff at the daycare center have tested positive. Testing is ongoing.
Three men and women related to a Changwon music club tested positive during self-quarantine and were classified as cases 923 to 925.
In Gimhae, two teenage males tested positive after contact with case 879 and were classified as cases 901 and 909. They are users of the Gimhae Ultra PC Bang.
Two women in their 80s related to the Gimhae elderly day care center tested positive during tests for release from self-quarantine and were classified as cases 907 and 908. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases related to the Gimhae elderly day care center to 35.
The three cases in Sacheon are all family members of case 895 and were classified as cases 902 to 904 after testing positive.
In Geoje, a woman in her 50s tested positive after contact with case 885 and was classified as case 900. Three others who sought testing after experiencing symptoms were confirmed positive and classified as cases 910, 911, and 926.
Notably, case 910 works at a high school in the Geoje area. Health authorities plan to conduct comprehensive testing of students and staff at this school.
A man in his 70s and a woman in her 60s from Changnyeong tested positive after contact with Ulsan cases 486 and 487 during a family funeral gathering and were classified as cases 898 and 899.
Two more confirmed cases related to Miryang Yoon Hospital were reported. One is a hospital staff member who tested positive during self-quarantine and was classified as case 913. The other is a visitor to the hospital who tested positive and was classified as case 914. This brings the cumulative confirmed cases related to Miryang Yoon Hospital to 12.
Two confirmed cases related to the Yangsan elderly day care center were also reported. One tested positive during self-quarantine and was classified as case 915. The other tested positive after contact with case 889 and was classified as case 916.
In Jinju, a person tested positive after contact with case 825 from Songpa-gu, Seoul, and was classified as case 917. Hapcheon reported a case classified as 906 after contact with a confirmed case from Busan.
Accordingly, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the province has risen to 923 (252 hospitalized, 669 discharged, 2 deceased).

Kim Myungseop, spokesperson for Gyeongnam Province, said, "Many of the new confirmed cases are family transmission cases," and urged, "If you suspect even slight symptoms of COVID-19, please get tested at a nearby screening clinic, always wear a mask during family gatherings, and reduce year-end and New Year gatherings as much as possible."
