Gwangju Nam-gu Secures Over 2.9 Billion Won in Special Grants This Year... Momentum for Current Projects
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Byeong-nae) announced on the 16th that it has secured a total project budget of 2.868 billion KRW through efforts to obtain special grants from the government throughout the year, and is currently promoting or has completed 11 pending projects, including the Baegun Square Elevated Walkway construction project, using the secured funds.
The special grants supported by the government this year served as a catalyst for providing convenience to local residents and advancing various pending projects.
First, Nam-gu recently secured project funds of 500 million KRW each from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety for the creation of an accessible trail at Mulbit Neighborhood Park and the establishment of a space for the Sajik-dong Urban Regeneration New Deal hub facility.
The funds will be used to improve facilities so that elderly people, disabled individuals, and parents with infants in strollers using Mulbit Neighborhood Park in Hyodeok-dong can use the walking paths and rest areas without inconvenience. Additionally, the funds will be used to create job-creating spaces in Sajik-dong, which has lost vitality due to aging and an increase in vacant houses.
Nam-gu also expanded the project budget by 1 billion KRW in August for the Baegun Square Elevated Walkway (500 million KRW) and the reinforcement of youth sports facilities and creation of a healing forest at Yuan Neighborhood Park (500 million KRW), and is carrying out district pending projects and residents’ long-awaited projects respectively.
The Baegun Square Elevated Walkway project funds are being used to connect the disconnected Green Road Park walking path in front of Baegun Square, and with the completion of the Baegun Overpass demolition and the construction of Subway Line 2, it is expected to play a useful role in revitalizing the local economy around Baegun Square.
Furthermore, starting next year, Nam-gu plans to invest 500 million KRW to reinforce physical training facilities for youth using Yuan Neighborhood Park, create walking paths around the park, and establish a multi-layered healing forest densely covered with trees and grass.
In addition, with the special grants secured this year, Nam-gu plans to promote the reinforcement of the aging Nam-gu Youth Training Center functions (200 million KRW), maintenance of sewage pipelines in Jisan Village to prevent flooding of houses and farmland (200 million KRW), and sewage maintenance around Bangnim 2-dong Administrative Welfare Center and Wolsan Apartment where sewage pipeline maintenance is needed (200 million KRW).
Moreover, to provide convenience to residents, 50 million KRW and 80 million KRW were invested respectively to complete pedestrian road maintenance in sections with frequent traffic accidents involving the elderly and to advance road name address systems and infrastructure construction around the Hyocheon District, where many apartment complexes have been built.
