Cellid Confirms Protective Efficacy in Non-Human Primate Infection Test of COVID-19 Vaccine
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Cellid announced on the 16th that its adenovirus vector-based vaccine, currently under development, demonstrated viral protection efficacy in primates with a single dose in an immune post-infection test against the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) conducted on primates.
This test was supported as a third supplementary budget project by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Government-wide Support Council for COVID-19 Therapeutics and Vaccine Development, and utilized a primate infection model developed by the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology to conduct the "Efficacy Evaluation and Pharmacokinetic Test of COVID-19 Vaccine Candidates."
After a single dose of Cellid's COVID vaccine 'AdCLD-CoV19' was administered to crab-eating macaques, they were infected with COVID-19 at week 7. As a result, infectious virus was completely eliminated from the upper respiratory tract, the main infection site, by day 2 post-infection. Additionally, tests conducted on lung tissue samples on day 3 post-infection detected no infectious virus at all.

Kang Chang-yul, CEO of Cellid, stated, "AdCLD-CoV19 is a powerful preventive vaccine that induces neutralizing antibody responses capable of neutralizing the virus with a single dose, as well as T cell responses that can eliminate infected cells." He added, "Through this test, we confirmed that memory immunity against the COVID-19 virus was formed, resulting in a perfectly functioning immune response." He further commented, "We expect that after administration to humans, the vaccine will be able to completely eliminate the virus before disease onset upon COVID-19 infection."
