View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, has been selected for the 2021 Nakdong River Basin Special Support Public Contest, and the ‘Gyeonghogang 100-ri Road Bicycle Path and Walking Trail’ project is expected to gain momentum.
The county announced on the 16th that the Gyeonghogang 100-ri Road Bicycle Path - Mukkokgyo Deck Expansion Project was selected in this contest and will receive 800 million KRW from the Watershed Management Fund.
The Mukkokgyo Deck Expansion Project, which involves constructing a bicycle path on Mukkokgyo Bridge near Seongcheol Park (Mukkok Ecological Forest) in Danseong-myeon, will invest a total of 1 billion KRW, including 800 million KRW from the Watershed Management Fund and 200 million KRW from the county budget. The detailed design is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2021, with completion by the third quarter of 2021.
The Gyeonghogang 100-ri Road Bicycle Path and Walking Trail project is being promoted as a cooperative project for mutual development with Jinju City.
The project involves constructing a 46 km long bicycle and pedestrian path starting from Daegwan Bridge in Gwanjeong-ri, Danseong-myeon, following the Gyeonghogang River, passing through Seongsimwon and Sancheong-eup urban area, and extending to Jusang Village in Geumseo-myeon, located above Donguibogam Village.
This project will be carried out by installing bicycle safety facilities on existing roads, utilizing planned roads such as embankment roads, and installing decks.
The total project cost is expected to be about 5.5 billion KRW. The bicycle path is expected to open by the end of 2021.
The two local governments will also connect the 6 km section from Daegwan Bridge in Danseong-myeon, Sancheong-gun, to the Bronze Age Museum in Daepyeong-myeon, Jinju City, and Omi Village in Myeongseok-myeon with a bicycle path.

A county official stated, “This project aims to expand the demand for bicycle leisure travel in western Gyeongnam to the Jirisan area of Sancheong, as well as to utilize Jinju’s bicycle city infrastructure, and to revitalize the local economy by attracting bicycle and walking tourists. As it is a mutually cooperative project, we will do our best to work closely with Jinju City to ensure smooth progress.”
