[Photo] Geumcheon-gu Siheung 3-dong Wins Two Top Awards in Resident Autonomy Category
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) Siheung 3-dong Residents' Autonomy Committee won the Grand Prize at the '19th National Residents' Autonomy Expo' and the '2020 Seoul Residents' Autonomy Committee Performance Sharing Conference.'
The '19th National Residents' Autonomy Expo' was jointly hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Autonomy Decentralization Committee, and the Open Society Citizens' Coalition from the 7th to the 11th to discover excellent cases of residents' autonomy and create a communication platform. Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the entire process was conducted online.
A total of 309 cases were submitted nationwide from cities, counties, districts, and towns in five categories: residents' autonomy, regional revitalization, learning communities, residents' organization networks, and institutional policy fields.
After the first document screening and the second interview screening, 68 excellent cases were selected for the final evaluation, and the Siheung 3-dong Residents' Autonomy Committee won the Grand Prize in the regional revitalization category.
The 'Seoul Residents' Autonomy Committee Performance Sharing Conference' was held from the 19th to the 27th of last month for nine days to officially discover and spread excellent operational know-how of residents' autonomy committees through a contest.
In the categories of residents' group, institutional improvement, and agenda execution, 54 cases from 21 districts were submitted. After internal screening, the Siheung 3-dong Residents' Autonomy Committee won the Grand Prize in the agenda execution category.
The Siheung 3-dong Residents' Autonomy Committee has been promoting various residents' autonomy projects such as ▲establishing a long-term village vision under the theme of 'A sustainable autonomous village led together by residents' ▲creating a village fund through building resident networks ▲entrusting and managing the Neighborhood Village Connection Center ▲establishing the Bakmimaeul Social Cooperative.
Kim Myung-ja, Chairperson of the Siheung 3-dong Residents' Autonomy Committee, said, "Winning two Grand Prizes this time has become an opportunity for residents to harmonize and actively participate," and added, "Going forward, the Siheung 3-dong Residents' Autonomy Committee will continue to consider ways to involve more residents."
