COVID-19 Cases Reported in Beijing After Over 6 Months
27-Year-Old Man Entered Beijing by Flight from Hong Kong
Health Authorities Conducting Epidemiological Investigation
[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Jo Young-shin] A new case of COVID-19 has been confirmed in Beijing, the capital of China. This is the first confirmed case in over six months since a case was reported at the Xinfadi Market in Beijing last June.
According to the Beijing Daily on the 15th, a 27-year-old man who arrived in Beijing from Hong Kong by air on the 28th of last month developed a fever after 14 days of centralized quarantine.
The man tested negative in a nucleic acid test conducted immediately upon arrival in Beijing and also tested negative during the quarantine period. After completing quarantine, he stayed at a hotel in Chaoyang District, Beijing starting from the 12th. When he developed fever and diarrhea symptoms on the 13th, he underwent another nucleic acid test at Chaoyang Hospital on the 14th, which returned a positive result.
Beijing health authorities classified the man as a mild case after comprehensive testing and categorized him as an imported case.

The health authorities conducted disinfection operations at the hotel and hospital where the man stayed, and imposed home quarantine measures on staff and their families who visited Chaoyang Hospital on the 14th. Epidemiological investigations are currently underway.
