Mural Renovation in Jeonnong-dong Area, Dongdaemun-gu... Refreshing Transformation of Alleyways
Dongdaemun-gu Completes Maintenance of 7 Old and Damaged Murals and Sculptures in Jeonnong 1 and 2-dong... Enhancing Urban Aesthetics to Create a Bright and Safe Walking Environment, Increasing Resident Satisfaction
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol) announced on the 15th that it has completed the maintenance project for seven old and damaged murals and sculptures in the Jeonnong-dong area, which were detracting from the urban aesthetics, transforming the alleys into a fresh and pleasant environment.
The district carried out maintenance by either reinstalling or repainting the murals and sculptures that had deteriorated over time since their installation, aiming to create a bright and safe urban landscape.
The area around 45 Dapsimni-ro 23da-gil in Jeonnong 1-dong is a point where a small alley meets a main road at the entrance of a residential area, frequented by many residents, but the old murals were harming the urban aesthetics of the alley.
Here, the old murals were removed and replaced with new murals depicting a girl reading a book, a deer, flowers, and a green field, completely changing the atmosphere.
Additionally, the Malttukbakgi sculpture in Jeongok Village Yard Park, which had faded and peeled paint giving a dull impression, was repainted, transforming the park into a bright place that residents want to visit.
The area around 37 Sagajeong-ro 13-gil in Jeonnong 2-dong was designated as a mural theme site in 2014, and murals were created throughout the area, but over time, some murals became damaged, causing inconvenience to residents. After careful consideration, Dongdaemun-gu proceeded with maintenance to continue and develop the existing mural theme concept.
In two locations along the alley starting from 37 Sagajeong-ro 13-gil, old murals were removed and new themed murals were installed, and in three other locations, new installations were made to expand the existing mural theme site.
Some residents passing by the mural project site expressed great satisfaction, saying, "It would be nice to have murals in front of our house too," showing interest in the specific project details.
The district created different murals for each location using various themes suitable for the area, which is densely populated with houses and schools, including cute animals like dogs, cats, and squirrels, as well as natural scenery featuring flowers and trees, so that people of all ages from children to the elderly can relate.
